AR Event Experience at COP26 (2021)

For COP26 (2021), SSE asked us to create an event-specific AR experience to showcase their vision for a net-zero smart City and highlight both the innovative and cutting-edge solutions that SSE are helping to deliver with respect to power decarbonisation, heat & cooling, and transport.

COP26 has the potential to be a powerful platform for engaging with communities and people on the complex issues of climate change. Augmented Reality is an ideal tool to help visualise the sustainable energy systems and ‘whole system’ approach needed to meet these challenges.

During the 12 Day event, delegates, officials, attendees, and the visiting public were given the opportunity to explore SSE’s solutions via Augmented Reality, with 2 AR experiences featuring within SSE’s Blue and Green Zone Stand set-ups, and a Web AR “take away” version also being presented via QR code, delivered via 8th Wall’s platform.

With all 3 AR experiences orientating around a 3D “Smart City” projection, users were able to interact with the AR content via Tablet devices, and via their own smart devices, uncovering key information around SSE’s myriad of propositions, in a unique and engaging way.
